Jan 28 2010: Islands (CAN) arrive in Finland

Canadian indie rock band Islands will arrive in Finland for a show at Tavastia on March 19th. The stage will be warmed up by Cosmobile.

Islands’ debut album ”Return to the Sea” in 2006 gained the band reputation in indie circles all around the world. The album featured musicians from Arcade Fire and Wolf Parade and in addition to its summery indie pop, it included etno rhythms that did not become popular in indie music until years later with Vampire Weekend’s success.

Islands’ sophomore album ”Arm’s Way” (2008) was much darker, more progressive and melancholic than its predecessor and it was done completely without one of the band’s frontmen, Jamie Thompson, who left Islands soon after the release of their debut album only to return to the line-up for their third album ”Vapours” (2009). The album was a reversion to the lighter atmosphere of the debut album and it made Islands one of Canada’s most prominent indie bands.
