One of the most interesting and original bands of the new generation of American alternative music, Shearwater, will finally arrive in Finland. The band will perform at Tavastia on August 16.

Jonathan Meiburg founded Shearwater with his band mate from Okkervil River, Will Sheff, in his home town Austin in 1999. Afterwards, Meiburg has focused on Shearwater while Sheff has left the band to devote to Okkervil River and his solo career.

Shearwater's sixth studio album "The Golden Archipelago" was released by Matador in February and it received rave reviews in music media all around the world. The full-length is the last part of an album trilogy that deals with the complex interrelationship between nature and human. The trilogy also includes albums "Palo Santo" (2006) and "Rook" (2008), Shearwater's breakthrough album.

"The Golden Archipelago" is considered as the band's most personal album as Meiburg got the inspiration to the theme while working as an ornithologist on insular archipelago around the world. Produced by John Congleton (Modest Mouse, Antony and The Johnsons, Explosions In The Sky, etc.), the full-length draws influences from folk music to indie rock and modern art music. Shearwater finds kindred spirit in names like Talk Talk, Scott Walker, Fleet Foxes and Grizzly Bear.

Shearwater have previously toured with the likes of Blonde Redhead and Xiu Xiu. The band's show at Tavastia is their only Scandinavian club show this summer. Tickets cost 22€ +possible handling charge and they will be available at Tiketti on June 14. Tickets at the door cost 24€.
