May 24 2010: A HAWK AND A HACKSAW (USA)

Combining Balkan folk, klezmer and indie pop, American A Hawk And A Hacksaw will finally arrive in Finland in July. The band will perform at soon-to-be-opened Club YK on July 22.

After multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Barnes' previous band, indie pop group Neutral Milk Hotel, split up in 1998, he ended up travelling in Europe. Barnes acquainted himself with Eastern European musical traditions and founded A Hawk And A Hacksaw in Paris in 2001. The band draw influences from French, Turkish and Hungarian musical traditions and combine them with American folk and more modern alternative pop. A Hawk And A Hacksaw are indeed said to be pioneers in combining world music and American indie rock and bands like Beirut and Gogol Bordello have followed in the band's footsteps. Barnes and his partner, the band's violinist Heather Trost were also members of Beirut's early incarnation and co-operation with the band's frontman Zach Condon has remained close.

A Hawk And A Hacksaw's fourth album “Délivrance” was released in May 2009. Previously the band have toured with Portishead, Wilco, Of Montreal and Calexico, to mention but a few.

Tickets cost 10€ +possible handling charge and they will be available at Tiketti on May 26.
