American indie rock band Polvo will pay their first visit to Finland and climb on Korjaamo's stage on June 4th. The forthcoming gig is a rare treat as the band's tour will only cover a few other European metropolises.

Founded in Chapel Hill in 1990, Polvo are known as the ancestor of math rock and the band who prepared the way for noise rock and emo rock. Polvo's kinsmen and contemporaries include such names as Sonic Youth, Slint, Pixies, Pavement and The Jesus Lizard. Of today's bands, for example, Battles, Modest Mouse and Deerhunter owe a lot to Polvo.

Polvo's music combines the energy of hardcore punk, psychedelic guitar licks that make use of alternative tunings and fiddly rhythms and times. Inspired by Indian and Asian musical traditions, the band also use sitar as one of their instruments.

Polvo split up after four studio albums in 1998 but reunited in 2008 when they were asked to perform at All Tomorrow's Parties and Primavera festivals. Their praised comeback album "In Prism" was released last autumn.

In Helsinki, the show will be opened by noise rock band FUN and alternative rock act Lady Escape. Advance tickets cost 17€ +possible handling charge and they are available at Tiketti and Lippupalvelu. Advance tickets for Korjaamo members cost 15,5€ +possible handling charge. Tickets at the door cost 19€ and 17€ for Korjaamo members.
