Feb 23 2010: ZU (ITA) return to Finland after seven years

Long-standing Italian noise rock / free jazz / punk trio ZU will return to Finland after seven years. The group will perform at Bar Loose, Helsinki on May 31st and at Klubi, Turku the following night.

Formed in Rome in 1999 by drummer Jacopo Battaglian, saxophonist Luca T. Mai and bassist Massimo Pupillo, ZU are one of the most praised and original names of experimental rock. The trio's 14th album "Carboniferous" was released last year via Mike Patton's Ipecac label and it was selected as the album of the year in several music media. Described as a combination of The Melvins, John Zorn, Lightning Bolt and Morphine, ZU is especially impressive live when the musical range all the way from free improvisation to tight punk, metal and hardcore riff storms brings out the best of its virtuoso musicians.

Both shows will be warmed up by noise rock band Baxter Stockmann and Bar Loose's bill will be further completed with saxophonist Sami Pekkola. The shows are organized in co-operation with Sue magazine. Tickets to Bar Loose cost 12€ and tickets to Klubi 7€. Both prices exclude possible handling charges. Tickets are available at Tiketti.
