The start of Shake was probably like any other band: Five musicians met occasionally in a local bar. One sunny day in summer 2004 they found themselves in a rehearsal room, playing, putting songs together, having fun with chords - they dived into the depths of beautiful, rolling tunes like it was the most natural thing to do. To their surprise, the music was quite far from what they had been playing in their other bands - Finnish household names like Xysma, Thee Ultra Bimboos, Tehosekoitin and Duplo.
Shake moved rapidly forward as if it had a melodic mind of its own. Within a few months they had recorded a demo, which led to co-operation with Levy-yhtiö, a label which released their first EP in February 2005, simply titled "Shake". This raved about and highly praised little record took them on their first 11-gig tour around Finland with another of Levy-yhtiö band, Zacharius Carls Group. The great interest towards the EP and the success of the gigs clearly suggested that Shake had hit the hidden nerve of pop music - a source of songs which had been waiting to be found.
The press, confused what to write about this new, proud and happy group invented a finnish phrase "superband". Shake is without a doubt a superior, unique and precious creation to its members and the growing audience it has touched during its brief existence. Still, the enthusiasm of their live performance – a precisely breathing beat and lively powerpop chordplay of the brilliant songs are a far more accurate explanation to "super" than Shake's members' past.
They haven't reinvented the wheel, and they know when it's time to bow and respect the roots of rock'n'roll. They've also been around long enough to know when it's time to celebrate a new beginning, a vision formed by these five people and the birth of magnificent songs no-one else has created before. Ladies and gentlemen: let the earth move under your feet.
