"The true leaders of the pack"- the story of The Micragirls
The Micragirls was born and raised in the smallish city of Kuopio up in the northeast corner of Finland. Living wasn't always easy in redneck- invasioned Kuopio and our heroes had to fight more than once against the jocks that were constantly harassing them- calling them freaks and weirdos.
It was all about to change after that one warm summer day in 2001 A.D. This hardhittin', man-hating gang of girls had an urge to get something goin' and in a burst of sheer happy drunkenness they form a band. The seed was planted and very soon the girls would get their sweet revenge. And so, there began the story of The Micragirls.
Obscure 60's garagepunk and trashy rock'n'roll not unlike the sounds found on comps like Back From The Grave, Sin Alley and Born Bad was something the girls held dear to their hearts. In 2002 their first single, the now long-gone and sold out, "Are You Insane, Girls?" 7" EP appeared and soon they were gigging extensively all around their native country.
Then in 2003, another 7" EP surfaced. "Mind Twistin`Weekend With..." was packed with hits like "Saturday" and "Date At The Graveyard" and now even the crowds outside the snowstruck country were starting to take notice and soon thereafter, shows in Estonia, Sweden and Russia followed and the bands throne as the new queens of lo-fi trashrock was furthermore strengthened. On stage their own material mixed together with cover versions of such classic songs like " Go Go Gorilla", " What A Way To Die", " Yum Yum Yamaha" and " Funnel Of Love" made them an absolute livefavorite where ever they went and whomever was in the crowd. Dressed in their exclusive, handmade Micra- outfits, white circusboots and sporting an enthusiasm towards their music is seldom seen. So it has never been hard for the band to win over the crowd.
They are like the perfect cartoonish daughter of Japan's The 5,6,7,8's, America's The Trashwomen and England's Thee Headcoatees. In Spring 2004 they made a monthlong European tour and a new 7" EP, "Primitive Homeorgan Blast", is out for adoration. Tracks such as the catchy-as-hell "My My Micraboy" will make crowds go mad all over our dear little planet!!
