Canadian Godspeed You! Black Emperor's comeback tour will bring the band to Finland early 2011. Combining post rock, art music, punk and alternative rock, the highly appreciated band will perform at Kulttuuritalo on January 17.
Founded in Montreal in 1994, Godspeed You! Black Emperor are the single most significant band in the post rock genre and dozens of groups from Sigur Ros to Mogwai and Magyar Posse to Explosions in the Sky have been influenced by them. Their songs are mainly long, instrumental and movie-like and their hypnotic shows are supported by impressive video projections.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor's ”F#A#∞” (1997) and its successor ”Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven” (2000) are undisputedly considered as cornerstones of post rock. The band announced a hiatus in 2003 after which the members have concentrated on other projects like Thee Silver Mt. Zion.
Last spring, Godspeed You! Black Emperor surprised their fans by announcing that they will be curating ATP's line-up and also playing their first show in over seven years. The forthcoming show at Kulttuuritalo is the band's only performance in the Nordic countries. The show is organized in cooperation with Sue magazine. Tickets cost 35€ +possible handling charge and they will be available at Tiketti and Lippupalvelu on September 6.
