MESSER CHUPS (RUS)
Saturday March 6 2010 @ Bar Loose, Helsinki
Tickets 12€, pre-sale: Tiketti
”Twangy sci-fi music for people who know that the future actually happened over 40 years ago, was scripted by Ed Wood and illustrated by Eric Stanton while Criswell and the faltering ghost of Bela Lugosi looked on.” –The Wire
”Tones in the vein of Tarantino's Pulp Fiction soundtrack -- jazzy-meets-surf tunes that might have come from the Stray Cats' back catalogue” –Popmatters
”Messer Chups is surely the soundtrack to Ed Wood's lost Russian zombie movie” –BBC
Drawing from trash movie soundtracks and surf music, Russian Messer Chups arrive in Helsinki on February 6th to play at Blues Trash Cabaret club taking place at Bar Loose.
Founded in the end of 90’s, Messer Chups consist of guitarist Oleg Gitarkin, pin-up model-like bassist Zombie Girl and drummer Dennis Kuptsov who is also known for bands Spitfire and Leningrad. The trio’s music is a combination of bits and pieces of rockabilly, surf music, theremin solos and compositions that sound like soundtracks of trash movies.
Over the years, Messer Chups have released over ten albums. Their latest full length, ”Heretic Channel” was released last year. The band are known as true friends of Finland: in addition to last year’s shows at Oranssifest and Jyrock, they have for example toured Finland with Aavikko and played at Psychorama Festival at Tavastia.
The evening will be opened up by Last Calls. The event is organised in co-operation with Hellbilly Crew. Tickets are available at Tiketti for the price of 12€ +possible handling charge.
